Imagine movies like Rambo, Anaconda and Predator 1 are blended into one; then, the result is this book.
This sci-fi novel tells about the adventure of people who hunts a mysterious creature from Kalimantan’s forest called Giganto, the Latin name of a local primate species, giganthopithecus blaki.
Giganto is described as a pre-historic ape with gigantic body size, more than 3 meters height. Nowadays experts believe that this older cousin of Orang Utan has been extinct for centuries. Yet in this novel, the author brings Giganto back to live, make it roaring and raging against hunters and researchers who try to put it in a cage.
Koen serves his readers with high tension of actions, added with a blur line between scientific facts and legend. Sophisticated data from primer sources are also provided within the plot, encourage readers to ask themselves: does this giant gorilla possibly really exist?
Rian-O-meter:
I personally love any sci-fi, and I am glad to know that an Indonesian writer could make such a good one. Reading it, we will be reminded about the importance of preserving our flora and fauna, and other natural resources, in order to prevent disasters which may endanger human being. This fiction is not too fancy, and its way in telling the moral value does not sound like lecturing; hence, I would like to give 7,5 out of 10 scores for Giganto.
Ahya, you can also read this novel for children as a bed time story ^_^
